The thickness of a blank unstayed fullhemispherical head with the pressure on the concave side shall be calculated by the equation: where
L = radius to which the head was formed, measured on the concave side of the head
P = maximum allowable working pressure
S = maximum allowable working stress, using values given in Section II, Part D, Subpart 1, Table 1A
t = minimum thickness of head
w = weld joint strength reduction factor per PG-26
